Sefu Bernard

Sefu, a spirited student and teacher of the game, is focused on contributing to long-term athlete and coach development in North America and internationally. His path as a teacher-coach has presented him with opportunities to work with, and learn from, some of the top basketball minds in the world.

Over an eight-year span in the National Basketball Association (NBA), Sefu assumed increasing responsibilities with the Toronto Raptors Basketball Club. Most recently, he served as the Manager of Player Development and Player Programs, where he led the personal, professional and social development of the Raptors players to help them maximize their NBA experience and prepare for life after the NBA. And, prior to that, he was charged with teaching and driving the growth across Canada as the Coordinator of Basketball Development.

Sefu got his start in pro sport with the Detroit Shock of the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) and Detroit Pistons. What’s not often known is that he also worked as a player liaison in community relations for the Toronto Maple Leafs of the National Hockey League (NHL).

In addition to his work in pro sports, Sefu has a FIBA/IOC certification and served as the national development coach and National Head Coach for Canada Basketball’s Centres for/de Performance. He oversaw the development of over 400 athletes and 80+ coaches that fed into the men’s and women’s national teams. In 2009, both the men’s (3rd) and women’s (2nd) U17 national teams medaled at the FIBA Americas inaugural tournament qualifying for the World Championships in 2010.

A graduate of the University of Windsor (Ontario, Canada) with a degree in Human Kinetics and Sports Management, Sefu enjoyed many personal and team successes as the starting point guard and team captain for the Lancers. He was twice nominated for the Ken Shields TSN Award—a Canadian award for outstanding achievement in basketball, academics, leadership and community involvement—and was a multiple recipient of the Benny Crowley Memorial Award for academic success (1997-2000).

Born in Toronto and now living in the Cayman Islands, Sefu is always excited about talking Xs-&-Os and sharing his passion for learning, teaching, inspiring and developing leadership qualities in athletes. He is a life-long learner, who travels extensively in his pursuit of growth; including visits to Argentina, Serbia, Slovakia and Spain to further his study of the game.

In addition to driving the marketing efforts of PGC, he oversees the development of the course directors, PGC curriculum and directs sessions.
