Prep School

This is the newest of PGC’s course offerings.  The Prep School is specifically designed for athletes in entering 7th-10th grades and is a foundational PGC course.  In this course, you’ll learn how to train, think and play in proportions to your aspirations.

The Prep School pulls from and expands on the concepts in both Essentials and Think The Game allowing for more in-depth, age-and-stage appropriate instruction.

In this course you’ll learn how to learn how to SCHAPE your training, including:

Body Control and Explosion: Agility, balance, coordination and speed are the building blocks for all technical skills performed on a basketball court. Athletes will learn how to go fast and stop on a dime and how to act-and-react at game speed on both the offensive and defensive ends.

Ball Control:
Efficient and effective are two words that all ball handlers are thrilled to have describe them. Develop an understanding of when and why different dribble tactics are used and learn how to ‘combinate’ these moves.

Footwork:
Learn why ‘quiet feet are quick feet’; when and where to use an attack-pivot versus a ‘POOP’ pivot; and, the outside-inside footwork that allow you to initiate and absorb contact against bigger-stronger-faster opponents.

Un-ruffle-ability: Learn to be powerful, purpose and poised when you have the ball in your hands; to scan through pressure and have the ability to deliver pin-point passes during the Moment of Truth.

Mental Conditioning: Begin to build the mental skills that will help you goal set and perform optimally against the bigger, stronger and faster opponents.

Instilling a Fierce Burning Passion: Develop an insatiable love for the game that knows no defeat. How do you protect your joy?  How do you be ‘bigger’ than an unrelenting coach, a critical teammate, or a hostile set of fans?

How to be an Influencer: Leadership is influence and everyone can influence a group towards a desired end. Learn leadership, responsibility, self-reliance and communication skills.

While the Essentials and Think The Game courses were designed to prepare players to be successful in college, The Prep School has been designed to prepare players for  the competitive world of high school varsity basketball and the physical and mental rigors of high-level AAU travel basketball.

The Prep School is a 4-night, 5-day experience that is open to players of ALL positions. Early sport specialization in a late-specialized sport, like basketball, can lead to burnout, overuse injuries and lack of fundamental movement skills.  In this course, PGC will develop a ‘global’ athlete with a skill base and mindset that is transferable to all positions on the court.

Each day at The Prep School is comprised of teaching-focused, yet fun and competitive court sessions, condensed and interactive classroom sessions, and a daily video breakdown session.

Eligibility: The Prep School is open to boys and girls entering 7th to 10th grade.

Directors: The Prep School courses are led by a team of Point Guard College Prep School directors.
